Quiet Writing Time – what works best for you?

Writers come with all kinds of different writing habits and temperaments. The Gift of Creativity Retreat allows you to decide on a constant basis which kind of environment suits you best to get your drafts down on screen or paper:

In-Room Writing

writing desks
All bookable bedrooms and villas are furnished with comfortable writing desks. Some come with their own study area, terrace or even swimming pool. Set your own hours, enjoy the silence and lack of distractions as well as a view of pool, gardens or the sea. This is the ideal option for seasoned writers who thrive on complete seclusion. Feel free to eat by yourself or join other writers for lunch and dinner.

Focused Writing Sessions

Writing Room

For 4 hours each morning and for 3 hours each afternoon from Friday to Sunday, a joint writing room is available to all retreat participants. Here, you can avail of a comfortable chair and desk as well as electric plugs for your electronic writing devices. Complimentary water, tea, coffee and snacks are also on offer. A session host facilitates distraction-free quiet writing sessions of 50 minutes each. This is the ideal option for all who perform best in a structured, yet social environment.

The Gift of Creativity Workshops

A total of 4 creative writing workshops plus Tai Chi and Yoga for Writers sessions are available to participants who book the Writing + Workshops or the Personally Coached Retreat.

Decanting Flash Fiction – Masterclass for beginners and habitual writers of super-short fiction.

The detailed final workshop programme will be tailored to the needs and desires of participants with the help of preliminary questionnaires. We look forward to hearing about what you would most like to (un-)learn.

Tai Chi and Yoga for Writers

Stiff neck? Blank page? Urgent deadline?

Take away time from the writing desk to add to productivity. Gentle sessions of physical exercise as short as 5 to 10 minutes not only counteract the physical strain of “hunching” over a page or screen – they can help overcome creative blocks and enable you to write from a better place within yourself.

Participants who booked retreat options including workshops are welcome to join our 1-hour Tai Chi and Yoga for Writers sessions on Saturday and Sunday respectively – no prior experience is required. During these session, we will explore a range of simple, enjoyable exercises devised by accredited experts. Their purpose is to stimulate the circulation and thus oxygenate the brain, open up the chest and shoulder area, provide relief to the spine and help to bring kindness and mindfulness to the writing process.

More often than not, a step away from the sentence and into self-loving movement can get you unstuck. If you are aiming to up your writing hours, a fun and safe practice is your ideal companion and safeguard against the physical issues common among professional writers.

Tai Chi and Yoga for Writers

If you are looking for a more active workout, the Angsana and Banyan Tree Resorts offer you the opportunity of swimming in a beautifully designed pool or the sea as well as golfing, biking and various water sports.

Testimonials & Impressions
from Previous Coill Workshops/Retreats

I really liked it. It was great to bond with new friends, have fun without the family around, and have a peaceful environment, surrounded by like-minded people to write and brainstorm.

I liked that I just had to show up with my passport and a bit of money and everything was taken care of.

I was quite proud of myself to be honest. I spend more time than I thought plotting or writing. So it was a successful experience for me.
